Our UX/UI specialists consider controllers more user friendly. But if you can perhaps explain what the primary benefit of this feature is, I'd love to share your thoughts with our product team.
Also be noted that Designer Tools>Layout section allows you to arrange the gaps between the elements either by moving the pointer or inserting the values in px.

While it may be more user-friendly in general, it is quite annoying to tinker with when trying to be more precise in the size of things. If this could be added to accompany the current stretching tool, like for example, right-clicking the stretching tool to adjust for the number of pixels manually by typing, that would be quite useful.

That's why I have already gone ahead and passed this as a feature request for you. We’ll keep it in mind for future development plans for sure.
Though due to the business of our devs with a massive product roadmap, we have to pick new featured based on the value they’ll add to the most users possible.
