Gallery element question

This might be a stupid question,  but here goes--

When working with the Gallery element, how do I change the size of the image that pops up when the thumbnail image is clicked? Even if if the images uploaded to my gallery are radically different sizes, they all pop up to the same size when clicked (ie small images are stretched bigger, large images are compressed smaller).  Hope that makes sense--thanks in advance!  :)
